You might call these vegetable rennet tablets, vegan rennet, vegetarian rennet tablets or Junket tablets.
We call them Fromase 50 tablets.
These come in sheets of 10 pills or a box of 100 Tablets.
What are rennet tablets?
Rennet tablets are used to coagulate milk using enzymes. In other words, they turn milk in liquid form into curd for cheesemaking.
How to make cheese with rennet?
Each tablet is scored into 4 segments for ease of use. The desired portion of rennet is dissolved in 1/4 cup of cool, non-chlorinated water for 15 to 20 minutes. Add to the milk. Stir for 30 seconds gently and then let the milk sit undisturbed for 20 - 60 minutes (according to your cheese recipe) until the milk sets.
NEVER keep part of rennet solution for later use. When using store bought milk you may need to add a little more rennet.
These tablets are enclosed in "blister packs" so they are individually sealed and not exposed to oxidation until their "blister" is opened for use.
VEGETARIAN RENNET: These rennet enzymes contain no animal products (vegetarian rennet tablets), are gluten free and Non-GMO.
INGREDIENTS: Microbial coagulant (Mucur Pussillus and/or Mucur Miehei), Megnesium Stearate, Microcrystaline Cellulose.
YIELD: 1/2 tablet will set 2 gallons of milk in approximately 45 minutes at 86-95F. Ten tablets will set approximately 40 gallons of milk.
STORAGE: Store rennet tablets in the freezer.
EXPIRY: They will last at least 3 years if stored properly. These tablets will last indefinitely in the freezer and that makes it easy to always have rennet on hand.
These are excellent rennet tablets! We like them for their ease of use, and consistency in outcome. Many say these are the best rennet tablets available.
